2009 Excavations have begun

Luke Lavan, Michael Joyce, Bill Laing and Michael Mulryan have arrived safe in Rome, along with their equipment, which is an improvement on last year. Over the next few days they will set up camp for a team of 30 staff and students as we prepare our expedition. The weather is as you would expect -hot and humid even in the evening. Got a good chalet which is slowly being transformed into HQ. The Kent director Luke Lavan is really missing his 6 week old son Aidan, whom he had to leave yesterday to go on this daft excavation.

Baby Aidan is sad to have been left behind, but he'll surely get the chance to excavate in a couple years.
